Q: What will child care cost me using a Family Day Care Service?
A: Educators set their own fees for care during core hours (i.e. 8am-6pm, for casual care, for overnight or weekend care, for before and after school care). Each Educator you contact will discuss their individual fee schedule with you.
In Family Day Care, families pay for the hours they use (not the entire day as with centre based care). Please be aware that Educators usually do set minimum hours for care (usually between 6 and 8 hours per day.
Your fee will depend on your eligibility for Child Care Subsidy (this is determined by the Family Assistance Office).
Q: Do I have to pay for absences?
Yes. Normal fees are payable for all absences from booked hours of care.
Calculated fees are payable for absences from casual care when less than 24 hours notice has been given of the intended absence.
Absences from care fall into two categories that relate to eligibility of payment of Child Care Subsidy- Absence Days and Additional Absence Days.
Absence Days- each child is eligible for CCS for 42 days per financial year. These absences can be taken for any reason and they do not generally need supporting documentation. Public Holidays* are counted as Absence Days. All Absence Days must be reported on Weekly Attendance Records.
For information about Additional Absence Days please refer to your Conditions of Contract.
Please note that Child Care Subsidy is not claimable for a child’s initial day in care or for an absence from which a child does not return.
* Public Holidays are those which are gazetted in the area in which the service is operating. Normal fees are payable for absences due to Public Holidays if the child would normally have attended care on the day if it were not a Public Holiday. If care is required on a Public Holiday, the individual Educator’s Public Holiday rate is payable.
