The traditional custodians of the Glen Innes area are the Ngoorabul/Ngarabal people. They call their home Gindaaydjin which means ‘plenty of big round stones on clear plains’. This area is surrounded by world class National parks, natures reserves and is known as Glen Innes Highlands or Celtic country because of its resemblance and acknowledgement to the first European settlers to the district. The population was 6219 in 2021 and it is a district that is rich in agriculture in particular sheep, cattle and bee keeping since it was first settled.
Armidale Family Day Care has supported the establishment of Educators’ services since 1983. We give early childhood professionals home based career opportunities that would not have otherwise been available to them and support their work in providing high quality childcare to the children of Glen Innes families. While only one Glen Innes Educator is currently providing care, we are actively recruiting additional Educators to provide quality, affordable, child care to the families who live and work in the Glen Innes region.
As is the case in other centres in which Armidale Family Day Care operates, our Family Day Care Educators’ home based environment provide the families using care with the opportunity to place non-school aged children and school aged children together in the same child care environment.
